Speeding Tickets A smooth-talking young man has a 1/3 probability of talking a policeman out of giving him a speeding ticket. The probability that he is stopped for speeding during a given weekend is 1/2. Find the probabilities of the events in parts (a) and (b).
(a) He will receive no speeding tickets on a given weekend.
(b) He will receive no speeding tickets on 3 consecutive weekends.
(c) We have assumed that what happens on the second or third weekend is the same as what happened on the first weekend. Is this realistic? Will driving habits remain the same after getting a ticket?
