Summary Introduction

The catabolic repression is a form of positive gene regulation that relies on the activator protein. The cyclic AMP receptor protein (CRP) is also known as activator protein. The CRP binds to the promoter region of the DNA and thus the catabolite repressible enzyme are expressed. An allosteric protein, CRP binds to the C site only when it is attached with the cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP).  The CRP dimer only binds to the DNA.
