Interpretation:

If for a certain reaction, the value of equilibrium constant is 1×1018 then the equilibrium favors the product formation or reactant formation has to be explained.

Concept Introduction:

Equilibrium constant is the expression that relates the concentration of reactant and product in a reaction that is at equilibrium.  The equilibrium constant value can be interpreted to find whether the reaction is reactant favored or product favored.  Equilibrium constant is expressed by the symbol Keq.  If the value of equilibrium constant is greater than 1×103, then it is product favored.  If the value of equilibrium constant is lesser than 1×103 then it is reactant favored.  If the value of equilibrium constant is between 1×103 and 1×103, then it means that a significant amount of products and reactant is present in the equilibrium mixture.
