Summary Introduction

The human genome consists of 46 chromosomes (23 pairs) and they carry genetic information. Chromosome contains genes, which are considered as a basic unit of the heredity. The 22 pairs of chromosomes are called autosomes; each pair contains same genes or genetic information except the sex chromosomes (X and Y chromosomes). The sex chromosomes are involved in the determination of sexual characteristics in humans. Female contains two XX chromosomes, whereas male contains one X and one Y chromosomes.
