Introduction:

The cells that respond to stimulation alter their membrane potential by allowing the movement of ions across cell membrane. Plasma membrane is less permeable to ions but their movement is regulated by the gated channels. Cell membrane is generally more negative inside than outside by maintaining ion concentrations.
