Chapter 7, Problem 49AP

Over the Christmas break, you are making some extra money for buying presents by working in a factory, helping to move crates around. At one particular time, you find that all the handtrucks, dollies, and carts are in use, so you must move a crate across the room a straight-line distance of 35.0 m without the assistance of these devices. You notice that the crate has a rope attached to the middle of one of its vertical faces. You decide to move the crate by pulling on the rope. The crate has a mass of 130 kg, and the coefficient of kinetic friction between the crate and the concrete floor is 0.350. (a) Determine the angle relative to the horizontal at which you should pull upward on the rope so that you can move the crate over the desired distance with the force of the smallest magnitude. (b) At this angle of pulling on the rope, how much work do you do in dragging the crate over the desired distanced?

After collecting so much Halloween candy, you want to find a secret place to eat it all without being bothered. You see a small hiding place on top of a neighbors shed. Luckily, the neighbor has a ramp that leads up to the roof of the shed. You pull your bag of candy with a mass of 6.2 kg up the frictionless ramp which is at an angle of 29 degrees above the horizontal. The bag has an acceleration of 1.81 m/s2 parallel to, and UP the ramp while you are pulling -What is the Normal Force exerted on bag of candy by the ramp? - What force do you need to pull with in order to give the bag an acceleration of 1.81 m/s2?
A board 2.5 m long leans against a vertical wall. It starts to slide down the wall. The instant the bottom end is 2 m from the base of the wall, the top end is moving down the wall at the rate of 2 m/s. At that moment, how fast is the bottom sliding along the horizontal ground. 1.5 m/s 2 m/s 0.5 m/s 2.5 m/s
A small block slides down a frictionless track whose shape is described by y = (x^2) /d for x<0 and by y = -(x^2)/d for x>0.The value of d is d = 4.72 m. The block starts at x = 0, and is given a push to the left with an initial speed of 5.37 m/s, so it starts sliding up the track to the left. At what value of x will the block reverse direction and start sliding back down?      -1.47 m     -2.63 m     2.63 m     1.47 m
