To determine: The group that had the highest total number of brown fat mitochondria per mouse.
Introduction: Triglyceride or triacylglycerol is an ester that derives from the glycerol and three fatty acids. They are the main constituents of the body fat in humans and other animals. Triacylglycerol is seen in the adipocyte cells of the adipose tissue, where the fat is stored. There are two types of tissues that store the fat molecules: white fat and brown fat. White fat generates energy in the form of ATP, and brown fat generates energy as well as heat.
Explanation of Solution
In white fat, the ATP molecule is produced when hydrogen ion passes through ATP synthase. The final acceptor of the electron in the electron transport chain is the oxygen molecule. In brown fat, the mitochondrial inner membrane contains thermogenin and ATP synthase. Therefore, both ATP and heat is produced.
The experiment was performed by Researcher D to know the effect of a high-fat diet on brown fat in mice. The experimental group of mice was maintained on the high-fat diet (HFD) (60% fat) and a control group of mice on a normal diet (ND) (12% fat).
Refer Fig. 7.15 “Effects of a high-fat diet on brown fat” in the question. The group that was given HFD had the highest total number of brown fat mitochondria when compared to the group with ND.
The high-fat diet group had the highest total number of brown fat mitochondria per mouse.

- Hiarrow_forwardNeed help on all parts and explanationarrow_forwardplease draw! Starting as a lipid in some holiday prime rib, trace the path that energy and biomass make as that lipid is consumed by a college freshman, transported to a cell in the liver and converted into a carbohydrate, and finally as that carbohydrate is burned for energy in a cell in the cells of the shoulder muscles. Following your diagram/model, provide a written explanation for what you diagram/model depicts. Make sure both your model and explanation are clear, concise, and have the appropriate level of detail to clearly demonstrate you understand cellular respiration and the movement of mass and energy in animals.arrow_forward

- 1arrow_forwardBlomolecules, Metabolism, & Cellular Respiration 2020 BE Michael B. Jordan (MBJ) has been working out regularly to prepare his body for a new movie (yay!!!). Part 1: Name the energy storage carbohydrate in MBJS muscles that is responsible for fueling his workouts? Part 2: To keep up with the energy demands of his workout, his cells need to generate large quantities of ATP. Explain the events of only the oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) step. Be sure to include (1) the type of cellular trafficking used during OXPHOS, (2) the names of the high energy electron carriers and the final electron acceptor associated with this step in your answer. Part 3: Of the molecules involved in this process, select one example of a redox event. Indicate the oxidizing and reducing agent involved in the OXPOHS step as well as the reduced and oxidized products for the given example.arrow_forwardanswers below are somewhat right but not alll are correct.arrow_forward
