One such set of proteins are the transcriptional regulators that initiate the transcription and recruit the RNA polymerase. The other set of proteins are transcriptional repressors that inhibit the transcription and prevent binding of RNA polymerase. Cis-regulatory elements or Cis-regulatory sequences are regions that are found in the non-coding DNA regions that regulate the transcription of adjacent genes.
