Summary Introduction

The respiratory system is comprised of organs that are involved in breathing. This includes the nose, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi, and lungs. In humans and other animals, the lungs are considered as the primary organs of the respiratory system. The lungs are a pair of spongy, air-filled organs found on both sides of the chest (thorax). The lungs play an important role in exchanging of gases.
