Question
Chapter 6.3, Problem 6.4CP
Program Plan Intro
Method:
A collection of statements which are formed together to perform an operation is called as method.
Syntax for creating a method:
modifier return_type methodName(list of parameters)
{
//body
}
Example:
public int findArea(int x, int y)
{
//body
}
Overloaded method:
In java, two or more methods can have same name but they should differ in the number of parameters or types of arguments. This type of methods is called as overloaded methods and the features are termed as method overloading.

What exactly is method overloading? Is it OK to declare two methods with the same name but distinct argument types? Is it legal to declare two methods in a class with similar method names and argument lists but distinct return value types or modifiers?
Method Overloading is a feature that allows a class to have two or more methods having
same name, if their argument lists are different. Argument lists could differ in:
1. Number of parameters.
2. Data type of parameters.
3. Sequence of Data type of parameters.
Write different version of method sum() that display the sum of the values received as
parameter according to the following main method content:
public static void main(String[] args)
{
sum ( 10, 10 );
sum ( 10, 10, 10 );
sum ( 10.0, 10.0 );
sum ( 10, 10.0 );
sum ( 10.0, 10);
}
You have to define five functions with the specified types. Then, demonstrate the Argument
Promotion concept by reducing the number of method to two.
Differentiate parameters passing method i.e, by line, by reference, by parameter? with suitable examples.

- JAVA Method Overloading is a feature that allows a class to have more than one method having the same name, if their argument lists are different. Design a simple class and define a maximum method that finds the maximum of two integer values? Design an application to test that your new method is working properly. Now overload the maximum method to accept three double values and return the maximum of these three values? Finally overload the maximum method again such that it accept four double or four integer values and return the average of these four values? Modify your main( ) application to call and test these new methods. In each case the maximum overloaded methods should return the correct maximum values. - Long method or long method is a term for a method that has too many lines. In general, methods that have more than ten lines of code indicate the possibility of code that is too long, so it needs further analysis whether it needs to be broken down into several methods. Creating a method is considered more difficult than adding a few lines of code to an existing method. Especially if only a few lines of code are added. But this is the main cause of bloating a method when another line is added later on. Adding comments in a method to clarify the use of variables, logic, or other lines in a method can also be an indication that lines that should be described separately should be declared in a separate method. A good method has a name that describes the usefulness of the method itself, so the use of comments inside the method should be avoided. Mention some ways that can be done to improve the condition of the method that is too long!arrow_forwardDefining two or more methods within the same class with same name but different parameters list is called: a.
