Concept Introduction:
- The energy required to remove one (or more electrons) from an atom to form a positively charged ion (cation) is called ionization energy
- The valence electron is the most loosely bound electron in an atom which requires relatively lower energy for removal. This is the first ionization energy of an atom.
- Subsequent removal of inner electrons requires higher energy
