Two electric motors are being economically evaluated for the use in unmanned vehicle. Each is capable of delivering 90 horsepower to a necessary application that the vehicle performs. Data for the mutually exclusive motors as follows:
If the expected usage of the motor is 700 hours per year, what would the cost of electric power have to be (in $ per kWh) before the Motor Y is favored over the Motor X? Use i =10% per year. (1 horsepower = 0.746 kilowatts)
A machine cost $315,000 to purchase. Fuel, oil, grease, and minor maintenance are
estimated to cost $53.50 per operating hour. A set of tires cost $16,000 to replace, and
their estimated life is 3,100 use hours. A $17,000 major repair will probably be required
after 6,200 hr of use. The machine is expected to last for 9,300 hr, after which it will be
sold at a price (salvage value) equal to 13% of the original purchase price. A final set of
new tires will not be purchased before the sale. How much should the owner of the
machine charge per hour of use, if it is expected that the machine will operate 3,100 hr
per year? The company's cost-of-capital rate is 7.25%.
A Loader cost Ph 2,115,000 to purchase. Fuel, oil grease, and minor maintenance are estimated to cost Ph580 per operating hour. A set of tires cost Ph150,000 to replace, and their estimated life is 2,800 use hours. A Ph282,000 major repair will probably be required after 4,200hr of use. The equipment is expected to last for 8,400 hr, after which it will be sold at a price equal to 15% of the original purchase price. A final set of new tires will not be purchased before the sale. How much should the owner of the Dozer charge per hour of use, if it is expected that the machine will operate 1,400 hr per year? The company’s capital rate is 8%.

If purchased, the "shell" will cost $137,500 and is expected to have a $42,500 salvage value after 6 years. Alternatively, the company can lease a clamshell for only $13,000 per year, but the lease payment will have to be made at the beginning of each year. If the clamshell is purchased, it will be leased to other strip-mining companies whenever possible, an activity that is expected to yield revenues of $9,000 per year. If the company's MARR is 11% per year, should the clamshell be purchased or leased on the basis of a future worth analysis? Assume the annual M&O cost is the same for both options. An L-shaped bracket is used for relatively small fireplace openings and a Ushaped bracket is used for all others. The company includes both types of brackets in the box with their product and the purchaser discards the one not needed. The cost of these two brackets with screws and other parts is $3.50. If the frame of the fireplace screen is redesigned, a single universal bracket can be used that will cost $1.20 to make. However, initial costs of retooling ($6000) and inventory writedowns ($8000) will be incurred immediately. If the company sells 1200 fireplace units per year, should the company keep the old brackets or go with the new ones, assuming the company uses an interest rate of 15% per year and it wants to recover its investment in 5 years. - The initial cost of a pickup truck is $12,748 and will have a salvage value of $4,360 after five years. Maintenance is estimated to be a uniform gradient amount of $121 per year, with zero dollar for first year maintenance. The operation cost is estimated to be $0.3 per mile for 351 miles per month. The engineer must prepare an estimate of an operating budget for a 10-year period, if the signals were installed. The initial cost of the signals is $35,000 and the installation costs are $12,000. The estimated energy cost to operate the signals for the first year is $1000. The energy cost is expected to increase uniformly each year by 1.5% of the first year's energy cost. Assume an interest rate of 8%. What is the EUAC for the operating budget? Salvage value at the end of the 10-year period is negligible.arrow_forwardEngineering Economics You bought a new car which you intend to use as a public utility vehicle for P950,000.
