Operating difference between a normally open and a normally closed relay contact:

Normally open relay contact	Normally closed relay contact
Normally open relay contacts are said to be open when no current flows through the coil.	Normally closed relay contacts are said to be open when the coil is energized.
They are said to be closed when the coil is energized.	They are said to be closed when the coil is de-energized.
