Introduction:

Hemiacetals are the compounds formed by the reaction of aldehyde and alcohol with the elimination of water. Hemiacetals have two oxygen atoms, one from the aldehyde and another is from alcohol. It is a nucleophilic addition reaction. The oxygen from the alcohol carries lone pair of electrons, and has a partial negative charge. Carbon of the aldehyde group has a partial positive charge due to the presence of oxygen that is electronegative in nature.
