The total work done by the external forces on an object moving in a circle is not necessarily zero.
Explanation of Solution
According to the work energy theorem, the work done on an object is equal to the change in kinetic energy of the object in the process. The work energy theorem can be applied to the objects in circular motion to find whether the work done on the objects undergoing circular motion is zero or not.
If the object under the circular motion is assumed to be as appoint particle, the total work done on it by external forces is equal to the change in its kinetic energy. There is a possibility for the object moving in a circle to change its speed as it goes around. The change in speed can cause a non-zero value for the change in kinetic energy of the object. Hence, the total work done on the object in circular motion is not necessarily zero.
