Summary Introduction

To draw: The path of DNA as the next Okazaki fragment is synthesized in the given diagram.

Concept introduction: Replication begins at certain locations on DNA known as origins of replication. Since DNA strands are antiparallel, so during DNA replication, one strand that runs in the direction of the replication fork (5′-3′) is continuous and is referred as leading strand. The other strand is made in fragments known as Okazaki fragments and is known as the lagging strand. After unwinding, single-strand–binding protein attach to the strands to prevent them from rejoining. DNA polymerase held by sliding clamp adds nucleotides to the synthesizing new strands.
