In cock, presence of feather is a sex limited character which is limited to males only. Both males and females contain similar genotype for the feathering trait but the phenotype only expresses in males.

The reason why or why not it is a male progeny that are cock feathered, in cross between a cock feathered male and hen feathered female.

Introduction:

In chickens, “cock-feathered” and “hen feather” phenotypes are determined by the genotypes. $HH$ is responsible for “hen feathering” in male and female, $Hh$ is responsible for “hen feathering” in male and female, and $hh$ is responsible for “cock feathering” in male and “hen feathering” in female.
