To justify:Whether the given statement is true or false and explain it.

Answer to Problem 17HP
The given statement is false as all the angles of both triangles are not congruent.
Explanation of Solution
Given information:The given statement is“If two pairs of corresponding sides of two triangles are proportional, then you can use indirect measurement to determine the length of a missing side”.
Calculation:
Two triangles must be similar to each other to use the indirect method to find the length of the missing side.
Only by stating that the two pairs of corresponding sides of two triangles are proportional both triangles cannot be similar. Use the rules to prove that the triangles are similar as Angle-Angle rule, side-angle-side rule and side-side-side rule. Either proves that the angles are congruent.
Therefore, thegiven statement is false as all the angles of both triangles are not congruent.
