Chapter 50, Problem 2S
Summary Introduction
To explain:
The activities of innate defense system and the events that are happening to the skin.
Introduction:
The new kitten of individual scratches her roommate and the skin is turning red, warm and sore on touch. The roommate thought she contracted some fatal infection, but the individual is discussing the activities of the innate system with her. Innate defense or non-specific defense provides general response towards the pathogen. Its mechanism includes inflammatory responses that play an important role by providing defense against pathogens.

Write T if the statement is correct; write F if the statement is not correct.
Bacterial LPS is recognized by TLR3. " "
TLRs act as an alarm system to alert both the innate and adaptive immune systems that an infection is brewing. " "
Cytokines released by activated macrophages increase permeability of blood vessels. " "
Acute phase proteins are produced by activated macrophages. " "
TNF-alpha may be released systemically. "
MS can lead to scarring (plaques) in the CNS visible by MRI. The cells most associated with this is:
T cells
Astrocytes
Microglia
Oligodendrocytes
Natural killer (NK) cells
B cells

In subsequent months, he is exposed again to the same plant. Two days after re-exposure, he develops a painful rash. The doctor tells the child's parents that he has allergic contact dermatitis, which is a humoral-related immune response. The doctor assessment is incorrect because A. Poison ivy does not cause contact dermatitis B. This reaction is not a delayed cell-related immunity C. This is an autoimmunity disease D. This is not a humoral response. T cells are responsible for this type of hypersensitivity. E. As a teenager, she is re-exposed to the measles virus during an outbreak at her high school. What will most likely prevent Rebecca from experiencing any signs or symptoms of measles? As a result of her childhood exposure, her immune system can perform enhanced inflammatory response. As a result of her childhood exposure, her immune system can perform enhanced phagocytosis of virus-infected host cells. She has memory innate immune cells as a result of her childhood exposure. They would be primed to activate rapidly upon subsequent exposure to the same virus during the secondary immune response. She has memory B cells as a result of her childhood exposure.
