Summary Introduction
Introduction:
The corpus luteum is a temporary structure present in female ovaries. It acts as an endocrine gland and consists the production ofprogesterone in high levels, estradiol in moderate level, inhibin A and lesser amont of estrogen. Corpus luteum is basically the remains of the ovarian follicle, after releasing a mature ovum during ovulation. The progesterone secreted by the corpus luteum is a steroid hormone. This hormone perform the function of decidualization of the endometrium i.e. development and the maintenance of endometrium.
The ovarian follicle is a cellular aggregation present in ovaries. The main hormone secreted by this is estradiol, this hormone influence the stages of menstrual cycle.
