To determine: The source of the cooperativity in hemoglobin.
Introduction:
Cooperativity is the binding of the oxygen to the hemoglobin molecules. A hemoglobin molecule has four binding sites, so when an oxygen molecule binds to a hemoglobin binding site the affinity of oxygen of the other three binding sites increases for Hb, this phenomenon is known as cooperative binding. The cooperative binding of oxygen to the hemoglobin was first described by Archibald Hill in 1910.
