Interpretation:
Two gases: one most abundant gas, nitrogen is filled in a leaked balloon and another lightest gas, hydrogen is filled a balloon having identical small leak of previous balloon. Gases pass through the small leak of each balloon. Speed at which the hydrogen balloon will deflate is to be determined.
Concept introduction:
Rate of effusion of gas is calculated by dividing moles of gas (n) to time of effusion (t). Rate of effusion is given as:
rate=(nt)
Ratio of rate of effusion of gases is given by following formula. Rate of effusion is also inversely proportional to square root of the molar mass of gas.
