Cod is the commonly known name of demersal fish. It includes some other fishes, which are also the sources of essential fatty acids such as EPA and DHA. EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) is an omega-3 fatty acid. EPA is formed from the linolenic acid in the tissues of fish. DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) is also an omega-3 fatty acid and it is also formed from the linolenic acid in the tissues of fish.
