Explanation of Solution

Given Info: Two thermometers, one calibrated in °F and the other in °C, are used to measure the same temperature.

Comparing the Celsius scale and Fahrenheit scale 0°C is the freezing point in Celsius scale whereas 32°C is the freezing point in Fahrenheit scale thus Fahrenheit scale is 59 times larger than that of Degree Celsius scale.

But below 0°C the degree Celsius scale is found to be larger than that of degree Fahrenheit. Thus the temperature in Fahrenheit may be greater than or less than that of Degree Celsius. Hence the answer is option (d).

Conclusion:

Above 0°C the Fahrenheit scale is larger than that of Degree Celsius scale. But below 0°C Degree Celsius scale is larger than that of Fahrenheit scale. Thus the numerical reading of Fahrenheit may be greater, less or equal to Degree Celsius. Hence option (d) is correct.

The Fahrenheit scale is greater than degree Celsius scale above 0°C. Hence option (c) is correct only if the numerical reading of Fahrenheit thermometer is greater than 0°C.

Below 0°C Degree Celsius scale is larger than that of Fahrenheit scale. Hence option (a) is correct only if the numerical reading of Fahrenheit thermometer is less than 0°C.

There is no temperature at which both Fahrenheit and Degree scale become equal. Thus option (b) is incorrect.
