To analyze:
A child falls from a bicycle and breaks an arm. The broken bone is set correctly, which heals in time. An enlarged bony bump remains at the site of fracture once the cast is removed. The bony bump disappears after a few months. The reason for the enlargement of the fractured area during the healing process.
Introduction:
The bone is covered by a thin membrane of tissue known as periosteum. This tissue is only absent in a bone joint. The periosteum protects bone from other tissues. Periosteum helps to connect circulatory and nervous systems to the bones. The periosteum plays a vital role in the growth and repair of bones.
During a fracture, periosteum may tear completely or partially depending on the type of injury. This causes bleeding and gives rise to hematoma. After a fracture, inflammation occurs mainly to induce healing process.

- Figure 38.19 Which of the following statements about bone tissue is false? Compact bone tissue is made of cylindrical osteons that are aligned such that they travel the length of the bone. Haversian canals contain blood vessels only. Haversian canals contain blood vessels and nerve fibers. Spongy tissue is found on the inferior of the bone, and compact bone tissue is found on the exterior.arrow_forwardWhich of the following is unique to cancellous bone tissue? a)osteons b)lacunae c)canaliculi d)trabeculaearrow_forwardWhat do you mean by decalcified bone?arrow_forward
- A 6 year old girl fell from her bike and landed on her hands. When she got up, there was an obvious deformity of her left arm. Additionally, she had severe pain in her left arm and could not use her hand. The X-ray revealed a greenstick fracture of her left ulna. Where, specifically, is this bone located?
