The shorter path is for Sarah to stop and get Irene and then

go to Anna's house.

Explanation of Solution

Given: Anna, Sarah, and Irene live at the intersections of the three roads

  Geometry, Student Edition, Chapter 5, Problem 19SGR

In the case of Anna, if Anna to stop and get Sarah and go onto Irene's house.

Anna will have to cover a large distance firstly by making an angle of 370 to

Sarah and then 530 to Irene's house.

But in the case of Sarah to stop and get Irene a then go to Anna's house will

be the shortest path. As per shown in figure it is clear that Sarah will have to move

at an angle of 900 and the again 900 to reach Anna's house.

Hence, It will be shortest path .
