Introduction: The thyroid gland is a butterfly-shaped endocrine gland and it is enclosed within a connective tissue capsule. The thyroid gland is located near the neck. It contains two lobes, which are connected by an isthmus. There are two hormones secreted by the thyroid gland, namely thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3). These hormones help in the normal functioning of the body.
