Introduction:

The accessory organs associated with the skin include nails, hair follicles, sebaceous glands and sweat glands. Nails are made up of the protein keratin which protect the underneath layer of the epithelial cells from injury. The hair follicles are present on the base of the hair with root shaft. The growth of the hair along with the melanocytes takes place from this region inside the dermis. Sebaceous glands are oily glands present on the skin. They secrete lipid substance called as sebum which nourishes and lubricates the skin cells. Sweat glands or sudorific glands secrete salt ions which maintain the temperature of the body. The sweat absorbs heat and maintains the temperature balance inside the body.
