Chapter 4.4, Problem 25E
Transportation The manufacturer of a popular personal computer has orders from two dealers. Dealer D1 wants at least 32 computers, and dealer D2 wants at least 20 computers. The manufacturer can fill the orders from either of two warehouses, W1 or W2. There are 25 computers on hand at W1, and 30 at W2. The costs (in dollars) to ship one computer to each dealer from each warehouse are given in the following table.
- (a) How should the orders be filled to minimize shipping costs?
- (b) Find and interpret the values of any nonzero slack or surplus variables.

Dr. Gurzick owns a computer store and is looking to determine an optimal amount of inventory. He sells laptops, pcs, and tablets.
each laptop uses 1 processor, 1 hard drive, 3 sticks of ram, and 1 power supply. they sell for 300.
each pc uses 2 processor, 2 hard drive, 3 sticks of ram, and 1 power supply. they sell for 500.
each tablet uses 1 processor, 0 hard drives, 2 sticks of ram, and 1 power supply. they sell for 200.
on hand I have 500 processors, 300 hard drives, 1000 sticks of ram, and 500 power supplies.
Develop a linear programming model for this problem indicating what inventory should be selected to maximize profit by using excel.
Suppose you sell skateboards and equipment. Grip tape costs you $2 for each foot, Each
set of wheels costs you $11 to manufacture, and $4 for each set of bearrings that go inside
the wheels. The trucks on the board cost you $15 for a set of two, and the skateboard deck
costs you $22 a piece.
Let G, W, B, T, and D represent the amount of grip tape, wheels, bearrings, trucks, and decks
repectively, that your company makes in one month.
Find the Cost equation in terms of G, W, B, T and D. Do not use any spaces in between any
symbols or numbers in your answer. Also make sure to use capital letters for the variables.
C(G,W,B,T,D)=
What would it cost the company to produce 200 feet of grip tape, 80 sets of wheels 65 sets
of bearings, 100 pairs of trucks and 180 skateboard decks? Do not include units or dollars
in the answer just the number.

Mr. Smith decides to organize a potluck party with neighbors on a weekend.
John Smith and his wife Mary Smith and his daughter Judy Smith will prepare three different salad dishes.
John's right side neighbor Jenny Jones and Bob Jones will prepare two desserts.
John's left side neighbor Linda will prepare one meat dish.
John's cross street neighbor Sue will prepare soup.
John wants to figure out how many different ways for him to taste all dishes in order (assuming he will taste all salads, meat, desserts and soup).
(Note : For example, "Salad, Soup, Salad, Meat, Dessert, Salad, Dessert" is one of the possible order he can try.
