Find the postulate this method is based on and draw a diagram to help.
Answer to Problem 16WE
ASA Postulate is used.
Explanation of Solution
Given:
N , on a river bank , wanted to know the width of the stream.A young soldier faced directly across the stream and adjusted the visor of his cap until the tip of the visor was in line with his eye and the opposite bank.Next he did an about-face and noted the spot on the ground now in line with his eye and visor-tip . He paced off the distance to this spot, made his report , and earned a promotion.
Calculation:
Represent the given situation:
One triangle is formed :
The height of N , forms right
The third angle will be formed by joining the two rays .
Second triangle is fromed:
When the soldier adjusts the visor-tip and points it towards the spot.
Both the
So, the width of the river is equal to the distance that N travels.
So, ASA Postulate is used.
