To explain:

The structure and function of bone and cartilage.

Introduction:

The cartilage contains cells present in lacunae with a solid matrix. The matrix is formed of cells called as chondroblasts and chondrocytes. They do not have a direct supply of blood vessels. There are three types of cartilage called as the hyaline, elastic and fibrocartilage. The bones are made of cylindrical structural units called as the osteons. It is surrounded by the layers of the matrix. The inner regions of the bones contain the nerve fibers and the blood vessels. The bone cells are called as the osteocytes.
