Mixtures and concentrations A 50-gal barrel is filled completely with pure water. Salt water with a concentration of 0.3 lb/gal is then pumped into the barrel, and the resulting mixture overflows at the same rate. The amount of salt in the barrel at time t is given by
where t is measured minutes and
(a) How much salt is in the barrel after 5 min?
(b) How much salt is in the barrel after 10 min?
(c) Draw a graph of the function
(d) Use the graph in part (c) to determine the value that the amount of salt in the barrel approaches as t becomes large. Is this what you would expect?

- The kinetic energy E of an object varies jointly with the object’s mass m and the square of the object’s velocity v . An object with a mass of 50 kilograms traveling at 16 meters per second has a kinetic energy of 6400 joules. What is the kinetic energy of an object with a mass of 70 kilograms traveling at 20 meters per second?arrow_forwardFind the intensities of earthquakes whose magnitudes are (a) R=6.0 and (b) R=7.9.arrow_forwardWhen a certain drug is taken orally, the concentration of the drug in the patient's bloodstream After t minutes is given by C(t)=0.06t0.0002t2 where 0t240 and concentration is measured in mg/L .When is the maximum serum concentration reached, and what is that maximum concentration?arrow_forward
