Concept explainers
A.
To describe: The two primary types of glands.
Introduction: A group of cells that perform similar function and have similar properties are grouped to form tissues. The study of tissues is known as “Histology.” Epithelial tissue is a type of tissue that lines the exposed surfaces and internal chambers, and has special cells called gland cells that are involved in secretions.
B.
To determine: The three methods by which exocrine glands release their secretions.
Introduction: The glandular cells of the epithelium are involved in various secretions. These gland cells are either endocrine or exocrine. Endocrine glands release their secretions directly into the interstitial fluid, whereas the exocrine glands release their secretions into ducts that open into epithelial surface.
