Introduction:

Osmotic pressure is the pressure which is applied to a pure solvent. It prevents the solvent from passing into a given solution by osmosis. So, it is an external pressure which is applied to stop the water flow across the membrane. A solvent movement from its higher concentration to lower concentration means that water moves from an area of lower osmotic pressure to an area of higher osmotic pressure.
