Fragmented disk:

  • The Operating system always tries to place the information on the disk that are next to each other but it is not always promising.
  • When the information of the file is scattered through two or more non- continuous sectors, then the file is said to be fragmented.
  • The fragmented disk contains many files stored in non- continuous sectors.
  • When fragmentation happens, it slows down the performance of the system.
  • It affects reading and accessing speeds of the hard disk which progressively corrupting the system’s performance to impracticable levels. Fragmentation is a critical issue to resolve.
