Chapter 4, Problem 4.51P
A pipe from one building to another flows water at 10°C from one building to another. In the winter the pipe loses an estimated 500 W of heat transfer. That is the minimum required mass-flow rate that will ensure that the water does not freeze (i.e, reach 0°C)?

Water vapor enters a continuous flow turbine with 6 MPa pressure, 450oC temperature and 80 m/s velocity with a flow rate of 900 m3/h, saturated at 20 kPa pressure. It comes out as steam at a speed of 140 m/s. There is a heat transfer of 5 kW from the turbine to the environment and the turbine inlet section is 150 cm above the outlet section.as it is;a) Find the power produced in the turbine. b) Calculate the adiabatic efficiency of the turbine.
A nozzle is a device for increasing the velocity of a steadily flowing stream of fluid, At the
inlet to a certain nozzle the enthalpy of the fluid is 3025 kJ/kg and the velocity is 60m's. At the
exit from the nozzle the enthalpy is 2790 kJ/kg. The nozzle is horizontal and there is negligible
heat loss from it.
(a) Find the velocity at the nozzle exit.
(b) If the inlet area is 0.1 m’and the specific volume at the inlet is 0.19 m²/kg, find the rate of
flow of fluid
(C) If the specific volume at the nozzle exit is 0.5 m kg, find the exit area of the nozzle.

Steam @ 400 C and 1600 kPa enters a nozzle at a velocity of 28 m/s and leaves as
saturated vapor at 100 kPa, steam experiences a heat loss of 46.6 kg/s to the
surroundings which are at 25 C. What is the actual exit velocity (m/s)?
