Concept Introduction:

An axis about which a set of atoms or groups is arranged so that the spatial arrangement is not superimposable on its mirror image is called chirality axis.

Bi-aryls are the compounds in which two aromatic rings are joined by a single bond. The chirality axis lies along the single bond connecting the two rings. This single bond between biphenyl rings can be rotated to reduce the steric strain between the hydrogen atoms of both these rings.
