Emotions:

Emotions are caused by specific events and have a very brief duration of existence. Emotions are specific and numerous in nature like happiness, fear, surprise, anger, disgust, sadness and so on. Emotions are accompanied by facial expressions that are distinct. They are action-oriented in nature.

Moods:

The cause of a mood is often general and not clear. It lasts longer than a normal emotion. They are a combination of multiple specific emotions which can have a positive or negative effect. There are no specific indications for moods. Moods are cognitive in nature.
