Functions of Software:

Word processing:

Word processing application allows the user to write, edit, alter, delete, and print the documents. The most commonly used word processing application is Microsoft Word.

Tools that word processing application offers when writing:

• Spell checker – These tools helps the user to find out the spelling mistakes in a document.
• Grammar checker – This tool helps the user to determine grammatical errors that the user has made. It is also detects run-on sentences, and passive voice.
• Format checker – This tool determines capitalization errors and unnecessary spaces in the documents.

  Presentation:

• Presentation can be created with the help of an application called presentation software that lets the users to generate graphical representation in order to communicate with a group.
• Many business people, students and advertisers use presentation application to give presentation to their colleagues and friends.
• It can be viewed as slides. Example: Microsoft power point.

  Spreadsheet:

• People use spreadsheet in order to do calculations and also create charts. The rows and columns in a spreadsheet are called as worksheet.
  • Example: Microsoft Excel. It contains many worksheets.
• In a worksheet, only few cells are visible at a time which can be further extended by scrolling it down.

Database:

• It is a collection of data which are stored in an organized way so that they can be easily accessed, managed and updated.
• Information will be organized in a table consist of rows and columns.
• Database is used to store, retrieve, re-organize or create reports from the information.
• By using queries, information can be retrieved from a database.

  Note taking:

• It is an application that helps users to take notes where they can enter text, images, links, and drawings.
• Some note taking applications allows users to record audios which is a part of their notes.
• Users can also sync the application to cloud where they can easily access.
• For example: Students uses this application to take notes in their schools or colleges.

  Calendar and contact management:

• It is a web program that allows the users to edit and share it with other persons which can be accessed only with the help of Internet connectivity.
• Some of the features it offers are:
