To determine: The regulation of body temperature in humans.
Introduction: In order to survive and function properly animals need to maintain an internal temperature within relatively narrow limits. The state of balanced internal environment is known as homeostasis. The body temperature is maintained within these narrow limits despite the changes in surrounding temperature through a process called thermoregulation.

- In your own words, explain the negative feedback loop of your body on a hot LA day. Answer using a few sentences.arrow_forwardfor aquatic animals such as sharks, how do the animals maintain their body temperature when they are in warmer or colder waters? do they have a method where they can decrease or increase their body temperatures slightly such as torpor in birds?arrow_forwardA high metabolic rate warms the animal from within, and insulation (such as fur and body fat) slows heat loss. Birds for example are warm-blooded animals that have high metabolism. During the winter, how do birds keep their body warm? The answers are found in their parts, their feathers, legs and feet, and their behavior like fluffing, shivering and roosting. How do their feathers, legs and feet help them regulate their body temperature? How do fluffing, shivering and roosting regulate bird's body temperature?arrow_forward
- Sketch a new graph to show how body temperature changes over time. Just like this: 20 10 time (hours) room temperature ("C)arrow_forwardWhat is the primary advantage of maintaining a constant high body temperature? a. It saves us the energy from having to look for a comfortable temperature. b. It enables us to survive in warmer climates. c. It keeps the muscles ready for rapid, prolonged activity even in cold weather. d. Other things being equal, animals with a higher body temperature live longer than those with a lower temperature.arrow_forwardThe regulation of temperature in mammals and birds is an example of homeostatis. Design an experiment to observe and measure processes involved in temperature homeostatis in sedentary versus athletic humans during exercise.arrow_forward
- Which graph best represents homeostatis? USE EVIDENCE FROM THE TEXT TO SUPPORT YOUR ANSWERarrow_forwardlight stimulus Refer to the figure below to answer the question that follows: 40 Bobcat (endotherm) H Enake (netother) 10 10 40 20 30 Ambient temperature (°C) 51. The diagram above shows the body temperature vs ambient temperature for a bobcat and snake. The Despite this extra energy animal that is expending more energy at lower temperatures is the expenditure, the payoff is that a. snake; it can be active during a wide range of temperatures b. bobcat; it can conserve energy c. snake; it can conserve energy d. bobcat; it can be active during a wide range of temperatures snake; it can hide for longer in Mr. vonk's physics room e. Body temperature (°C) 20arrow_forwardIn terms of body temperature regulation, contrast “cold-blooded” (Ectothermic or poikilothermic) and “warm-blooded” (Endothermic or homeothermic). Identify three animals that are ectothermic and three animals that are endothermic. What is the adaptive advantage of endothermy?arrow_forward
- Explain why a constant high body temperature is worth all the energy it costs.arrow_forwardDescribe the steps in the homeostatic feedback system activated to ensure normal body temperature is maintained when exposed to a hot external temperature (e.g., 42 degrees Celsius). Give typing answer with explanation and conclusionarrow_forwardHow does low temperature effect the life processes of cold-blooded animals? Select one: a. increases the procceses of heat emission b. decreases the procceses of heat emission c. decresaes heat buildup d. increases heat buildup e. changes the daily activityarrow_forward
