Chapter 39, Problem 2SQ
Summary Introduction
Introduction: Pepsin is one of the major digestive enzymes that is produced in the stomach of many animals including humans. The gastric gland present in the stomach secretes hydrochloric acid that activates the pepsinogen into pepsin. The acidic environment in the stomach denatures the proteins and exposes the bonds between them. These bonds are cleaved by the pepsin into smaller fragments known as peptides.
