Introduction: A photoreceptor refers to the light-sensitive proteins that are involved in sensing and response to light in many organisms. The three main classes of photoreceptors are phytochrome, cryptochrome, and phototropin. Phytochromes are the blue-green pigments that detect red light in plants. They act as photoreceptors and help in many processes such as de-etiolation, seed germination, and in shade- avoidance.
