Explanation of Solution

The light glare during the time of driving or boating has horizontal polarization. Reflected light will have polarization same as the reflecting surface.

When unpolarized light is incident on a shiny horizontal surface, there will be reflection which is nothing but re-emission of light energy by the atoms. The atoms on the surface oscillate about the mean position when the light is incident on the surface.

Conclusion:

The corresponding emission of light from oscillating atoms has polarization along the plane of vibration. Hence, the reflected light will be horizontally polarized. Therefore, option (a) is correct.
