Summary Introduction
Albuterol is an anti-asthma drug that exists as a racemic mixture. It works by dilating the bronchiolar smooth muscles during respiration by activation of the cAMP (cyclic adenosine monophosphate) second messenger system and lowering the intracellular Ca2+ ions. Ionic changes bring about membrane permeability and muscle relaxation.
