Concept explainers
Will a lamp with a thick filament draw more current or less current than a lamp with a thin filament made of the same material?
To Explain: The lamp which would draw more current.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
A bulb glows when current is passed through it. A light bulb contains a heating element which heats up and glows when current is passed through it.
If the filament is thick, it would have less resistance as compared to a thin filament. Lesser the resistance, larger would be the amount of current drawn.
Conclusion:
Thus, a lamp with thick filament would draw more current as compared to a lamp with thin filament.
