The mechanism through which an organism maintains its body temperature is called as thermoregulation. On the basis of regulation of the temperature, organisms are classified as endotherm, ectotherm, and heterotherm. The presence of fat or feathers or fur in an endotherm help in retaining the body heat in the endotherms, and the endotherms are capable of maintaining homeostasis on their own.
