Chapter 33, Problem 1CS
Summary Introduction

To determine:

The genetic as well as the environmental basis of lion’s behavior.

Given:

Lions behavior have genetic as well as an environmental basis.

Introduction:

The possible differences in a lion’s behavior and genetics are a poorly understood phenomenon. The variation in behavior could be due to the evolutionary processes such as genetic drift or may be due to environmental factors affecting genotype in order to produce an array of observed phenotypes of particular behavioral differences.

On the contrary, behavioral differences could be an act of natural selection on the basis of form, degree, origin, etc. of a lion.

(consult the Teeling and Hedges paper) b. What are the most closely related species to Chiroptera in each tree? Might the use of convergent traits for building phylogenies explain this difference? If so, which tree is most likely to have relied on convergent traits and why? c. What are some possible reasons that the two research groups came up with different phylogenies (in general terms)? describe at least three possible reasons.
