Summary Introduction

To determine:

Threats to the water cycle associated with human activities.

Introduction:

Water cycle is important for life on this planet. Water we use today comes from many ways but the water itself goes through a specific pathway which includes space above and below the earth’s surface and also various forms of water like liquid, solid-ice and gas molecules.

Expert Solution & Answer
Check Mark

Explanation of Solution

Impact of human activities on water cycle could be drastic.

  • Urbanization- with the increase in population the human activities increase and this lead to more vegetation loss from the surface. Building concrete floor wouldn't allow water to soak into the land and this interrupt water cycle.
  • Groundwater mining- makes groundwater level go down and affects water cycle.
  • Irrigation- Withdrawal of water from various water bodies like lakes, pond, river for irrigation also affects the water cycle.
  • Hydroelectricity- building up artificial reservoirs like dams over rivers to produce electricity, changes direction of the water flow and evaporation rate which affects water cycle
  • Deforestation
  • Cloud seeding
Conclusion

Human needs water for their day to day activities and for the survival but doing such affects the normal water cycle. Any change we do on water cycle can lead to devastating climate change.
