Concept introduction:

The gene expression is the phenomenon in which the genetic information encoded in genes is transformed into a functional protein.

Two important processes that control gene expression are transcription and translation. While the former deals with the synthesis of messenger RNA via the action of enzyme RNA polymerase the latter deals with mRNA directed synthesis of protein.

Certain specific regions, for instance, promoter, enhancers, and silencers, known as gene control regions, exist in the genomic DNA which is in transcription.
