Interpretation:
A simple assay for autoinducer activity of compounds in Vibrio fischeri should be determined.
Concept introduction:
Vibrio fischeri is a gram-negative and rod-shaped bacterium. They can survive only in seawater, but not in fresh water. Moreover, it is a bioluminescent bacterium, which makes a symbiotic relation with the bobtail squids. The bioluminescent nature of Vibrio is due to the expression of lux operon.
